Today in class we will be starting an activity where we practice analyzing documents and writing a Document Based Question essay (DBQ).  This is a skill that will be very important to master for those of you that are taking AP Euro next year or APUSh your junior year.  Get ready for a thrilling day of practice writing!  Below you will find our agenda, homework, and resources for the day.

Hello ladies and gentlemen,

Today in class we will be discussing the history of South Africa since World War II with special attention to the period under Apartheid, which was legal racial segregation.  This was an especially tough time for black Africans in South Africa.  We will be briefly examining the history and then we will be starting a movie about the end of Apartheid in South Africa and the steps taken to bring the people together.  Don't worry, this movie is much happier than the last one we watched!  Below you will find our agenda, homework, and resources for the day.

Today in class we will be finishing Hotel Rwanda.  This is an intense video, illustrating the genocide that took place in Rwanda in 1994.  Although it is PG-13 there are some disturbing scenes.  This is an important part of our discussion of the modern history of Africa so be ready to discuss!  Below you will find our agenda, homework, and resources for the day.

Hello ladies and gentlemen,

I am sorry that I am not there with you today!  It is the last of the District Professional Development days that I will be forced to miss class for and that I disdain a great deal.  Huzzah...  Today in class you will be completing the Rwanda Scavenger Hunt, to provide additional context and more specific detail regarding the Rwandan Genocide now that we have finished watching the film.  Once you complete the Scavenger Hunt, you will have time to begin working on your Current Event (due tomorrow) or on your Africa Maps, or on those EdPuzzle Videos.  I look forward to seeing you all again tomorrow!  Below you will find our agenda, homework, and resources for the day.

Today in class we will be finishing the portion of Episode 3 from the Guns, Germs, and Steel documentary.  After that we will begin taking a look at African history.  I love talking about African history because it is so commonly forgotten by Americans.  There is a rich and violent history that is often overlooked by those who are not directly involved in it.  We will pay particular attention to two nations, Rwanda and South Africa.  Both with interesting stories, one tragic and one uplifting.  Below you will find our agenda, homework, and resources for the day.

  1. Describe the impacts of geographic luck and its modern day impact on the continent of Africa
