February 25

Hello ladies and gentlemen,

Today in class we will begin our look at Imperialism, which will be our primary theme throughout the rest of the semester.  To get started today access the file below and read it with your 2 o'clock partner.

Skimming and Scanning

Follow the directions on the PPT and answer the questions regarding skimming and scanning a text document.

After we discuss the idea of skimming and scanning documents, we will begin reading the prologue of Guns, Germs, and Steel.  To access the prologue open the document below.

Guns, Germs, and Steel Prologue

We will be reading and annotating the first two pages of this document together as a class and then we will be watching the first episode of its corresponding documentary.

Your homework tonight is to skim and read the rest of the document by next Wednesday.

Don't forget that our Europe Map Test is on Monday!  We will be doing a practice map activity for Friday's rally schedule.

I hope that you are all doing well ladies and gentlemen!

Live long and prosper,

Mr. Marchetti

February 23 - Mapping Monday

Hello ladies and gentlemen,

Today in class you should have worked on and completed your third Current Event.  If and when you completed the Current Event you should have worked on your Europe Map Packets.

Current Event #4 should be on a newsworthy event in Europe.

Current Event #4 Worksheet
Remember you need to make a copy and title it P(2 or 6)_first and last name_Current Event #4

Remember to review any comments I made on your previous Current Events to avoid making the same mistake twice!

Because of the schedule switch for this week, you should have plenty of time to work both on your Current Events and Map Packets.  If you are able to finish both in class today I expect you to work on one of two things:
  1. Study for the Europe Map Test next Monday (March 2)
  2. Make up any missing assignments you have (the 1st six-week grading period ends this Friday!)
    • Remember to email me when you have submitted a late assignment to Google Classroom so that I can grade it.

Always great seeing you all today!

Live long and prosper,

Mr. Marchetti

Title it P(2 or 6)_first and last name_Argumentative Writing Population

For your Peer edits, you need to share with your 3 o'clock partner for #4 and your 9 o'clock partner for #5.  While peer editing make sure you use the "Suggest" feature for any changes you make.  While writing your second and third (final) drafts be sure you make changes based on the suggestions of your peers.

Follow the directions carefully in order to accurately complete the assignment.  We will be going over the directions in class today and you will have time to work & finish it on Friday.  I will not be in class on Friday so I am expecting that you follow all directions from the substitute and work diligently on completing this assignment.  If you finish early you may work on your Europe Map Packet
