Hello ladies and gentlemen,

Today in class you will be working on creating your imaginary country for Dominaria.  I will be gone during periods 1 and 3 so you must be able to work hard to get your stuff done!  Remember that Part I of the project is due on Tuesday of next week.  You will need to turn in your written report and prepare a short presentation of your country for the class.  Make sure you follow all directions closely and email me if you have any questions!  Below you will find our agenda, homework, and resources for the day.

Agenda:
  1. Dominaria Project Work Day - 1
    1. Today you and your group need to coordinate completing PART I of the Project (Direction replicated below)
      1. Clearly defined territory (Chapter 1 and 2)
        1. Draw a map of your country (15 points) (10x16 paper or larger)
        2. Must include:
          1. Major geographic features, climate and Biome zones (make sure it makes sense based on your country’s latitude)
            1. Remember that the major geographic features listed in the Province descriptions are NOT the only geographic features present.  Feel free to be creative and add to your nation’s geographic character!
          2. Capital and major cities
          3. Population density
          4. States/provinces
          5. Resource locations
      2. Population (Chapter 3 section 1)
        1. Describe the population and distribution based on the landforms and climate/vegetation. (One paragraph) (5 Points)
          1. Where do your people live in your region?
          2. Why do they live there?
          3. Do you have a growing or shrinking region?  Why?
        2. Describe your country’s culture and the cultural practices that make it unique.  (Two paragraphs) (5 points)
          1. Describe cultural practices and etiquette for these different areas (be unique!)

      3. Sovereignty (One page) (10 points)
        1. Describe your country’s struggle for independence, including any types of government it experienced before it settled on the one it has now.
          1. How did your country come together?  What brought your provinces together and forged them into an independent nation?
          2. What is the cultural history of your people?  What brought your ethnic groups together?  What makes your people unique?
          3. Be creative!  You need to establish a fully formed history of your people!
        2. Write a brief history of how your country became what it is today.
          1. Why do you have the type of government you have?
            1. How was it developed?
          2. Why do you have the type of economic system you have?

Homework:
  1. Turn in the Comparing Religions Writing Assignment to Google Classroom by 11:59 tonight
  2. Complete PART I of the Dominaria Project
    1. You will be turning in a typed report on Tuesday so make sure to coordinate with your group and get it done!
    2. You will need to prepare a short PPT presentation to give to your peers on Tuesday as well
      1. You will recive a short amount of time to work on this on Tuesday.

Hello ladies and gentlemen,

Today in class we have our Asia Map Test and we will be starting the Dominaria Project!  The Dominaria Project will be taking us to the end of the semester so just remember that we do have a Final Exam Map Test during Finals, we will go over the details more later but just be aware!  Below you will find our agenda, homework, and resources for the day.

Agenda:
  1. Asia Map test
  2. Introduce Dominaria Project
    1. Review Directions
    2. Get into groups of 3-4
      1. Must be 9 groups!
    3. Province draft
      1. We will roll dice to randomly determine the draft order 1-9
      2. Group 1 will have first pick of provinces from the map then each group in order will take turns selecting 1 province
      3. After each group has selected 1 province, we will repeat the process to select a 2nd province, starting with group 9 and going in reverse order
      4. Finally after each group has 2 provinces, they will select a 3rd and final province to establish their country's national borders
    4. Government and Economic systems
      1. Each group will select one government and economic system for their country
        1. these are found on pages 17-18 of the directions
    5. Start Working!
      1. After your group has selected each of these items it is time to start working on Part I of the Project
      2. Part I
        1. Draw a Map of your country
        2. Describe the population of your country
        3. Write a history of your country
        4. Write a constitution for your country
        5. Write an economic report for your country
      3. Lots of parts and you only have limited class time to work on it
        1. Part I is due Tuesday of next week
          1. Next week is a flipped schedule so we will not see each other Monday.  Instead we will see each other Tuesday, Thursday, Friday.
        2. Remember that you will be presenting your fictional nation to the class prior to playing the game
Homework:
  1. Begin studying maps for final
  2. Religion Comparison writing assignment due Thursday

Today in class we will be finishing the documentary Beyond Our Differences.  Afterward you will have a writing assignment to compare religions (directions found below).  After we finish working with religion we will be starting the Dominaria project.  Below you will find our agenda, homework, and resources for the day.

  2. Writing Assignment: Comparing Religions
    1. Choose 3 religions that you will be comparing
      1. At least one from India and one from the Middle East
    2. Write 3 paragraphs comparing the three religions you chose focusing on the following areas
      1. Practices
      2. Beliefs
      3. Afterlife
    3. Make sure you include specific evidence in your writing
      1. From research, presentations, and Beyond Our Differences
    4. Follow Chicago Style Guidelines
