January 30

Hello ladies and gentlemen,

Today in class we reviewed the California Quiz from last week and went over the answers.  After that we participated in an interactive activity where you had to take a stand (agree or disagree) with 18 statements (we only actually covered 10 in class).  If you were absent today you need to complete the alternative assignment to gain credit (Explained below) in order to receive credit for today's activity.  After we finished our interactive activity we took some short notes on the Toulmin method of argumentation.

Don't forget about your North America Map test on Monday!!!

Have a good weekend ladies and gentlemen,

Live long and prosper,

Mr. Marchetti

January 21

Hello ladies and gentlemen,

Today in class we had a few things that we accomplished.  First we took our California Quiz, covering the primary topics and information that was discussed and read over the past couple of weeks.  Remember that this was a quiz and that if you want to retake for improved credit you may do so by making an appointment with me for tutorial later this week or early next week.  You are eligible for a retake if you received a 13/18 or less.

After the California Quiz you had a few minutes to work on, finish, and turn in your Watershed Activity to Google Classroom.  Make sure that if you did not do this in class you turn it in ASAP for late credit (better than NO credit!).

Once we finished those activities we began our discussion on Population, which is our next major unit.  We watched a short video and discussed it while taking notes and asking questions.

Hope you had a great day ladies and gentlemen!

Live long and prosper,

Mr. Marchetti

California's Gold Project

Hello ladies and gentlemen,

Here are the directions and worksheet for the California's Gold Project.  This is an in class project that we will be using time today and next Wednesday to complete.

Directions: Complete the fields of the table. You will use Google Maps and Google Search for your task. Hopefully by finishing this task you will have a better understanding of the state in which you live and how amazing it is. You will be finding 2 amazing places for each of the 4 regions we have discussed.

Remember that when you open the class file you need to Make a Copy of it and rename it
"P[2 or 6]_first and last name_California's Gold" before you can work on it.  You will be submitting this via Google Classroom.

If you do not feel as if you can complete this with your time in class it is recommended that you work on it some at home between Friday and Wednesday.

January 7

Hello ladies and gentlemen!

Welcome back from our break!  I hope that all of you have had a wonderful time over the two weeks we have had off.  We are about to get started for the new semester.  There are several items to review and consider as we go forward with Spring Semester.

1.  This is the last semester of the year.  We only have until June together to cover all the relevant material and finish strong.  This semester will require a higher level of dedicated and determination.  Be prepared to work!

2.  We will be using a couple of new items this semester and I will be introducing them to you soon.  First you will need to set up a Google Classroom account.  We will be doing this in class today!
Go to Google Classroom.
Log in with your SJUSD account.
Use the Class Code to add this class
Period 2 - o8877hi
Period 6 - pcr2gz

This will allow for easier sharing and turning in of Google Drive Assignments.

3.  This semester we will be taking a much more specific look at World Geography and Cultures.  We will have several units where we will be examining the history of various countries around the world as well as the geography of the several continents.

4.  A key component of this semester will be applying your knowledge of geography through Map Tests.  Follow the Mapping Calendar and make sure that you are ready for the Map Tests, which will make up a significant portion of your grade this semester.  Before each Map Test you will be required to complete a Map Packet for that continent and turn it in on the day of the test.
Map Packet Completion Guidelines:
  • Must be neatly filled out in pen!  Be sure that your maps are not crinkled, wrinkled, damaged, or messy when you turn them in!
  • Be sure that they are accurate as these are your primary form of preparation for the Map Tests.
  • Be sure that your name, date, and period are on the front of your Map Packet.
Today in class we reviewed some items from the syllabus and chromebooks expectations, as well as the layout of the semester.  After we reviewed this information we began our first mini unit for the semester having to do with California Geography.  In class you should have completed the California Regions Annotation assignment and submitted it to Google Classroom.  The California Regions Mapping Assignment is due Friday.

I hope you are all ready for a new and energetic semester!

Live long and prosper,

Mr. Marchetti
