May 12

Hello ladies and gentlemen,

Today in class you will be working on creating your imaginary country for Dominaria.  I will be gone during periods 1 and 3 so you must be able to work hard to get your stuff done!  Remember that Part I of the project is due on Tuesday of next week.  You will need to turn in your written report and prepare a short presentation of your country for the class.  Make sure you follow all directions closely and email me if you have any questions!  Below you will find our agenda, homework, and resources for the day.

Agenda:
  1. Dominaria Project Work Day - 1
    1. Today you and your group need to coordinate completing PART I of the Project (Direction replicated below)
      1. Clearly defined territory (Chapter 1 and 2)
        1. Draw a map of your country (15 points) (10x16 paper or larger)
        2. Must include:
          1. Major geographic features, climate and Biome zones (make sure it makes sense based on your country’s latitude)
            1. Remember that the major geographic features listed in the Province descriptions are NOT the only geographic features present.  Feel free to be creative and add to your nation’s geographic character!
          2. Capital and major cities
          3. Population density
          4. States/provinces
          5. Resource locations
      2. Population (Chapter 3 section 1)
        1. Describe the population and distribution based on the landforms and climate/vegetation. (One paragraph) (5 Points)
          1. Where do your people live in your region?
          2. Why do they live there?
          3. Do you have a growing or shrinking region?  Why?
        2. Describe your country’s culture and the cultural practices that make it unique.  (Two paragraphs) (5 points)
          1. Describe cultural practices and etiquette for these different areas (be unique!)
            1. Meeting and Greeting
            2. Gift Giving
            3. Dining Etiquette
            4. Business Etiquette
      3. Sovereignty (One page) (10 points)
        1. Describe your country’s struggle for independence, including any types of government it experienced before it settled on the one it has now.
          1. How did your country come together?  What brought your provinces together and forged them into an independent nation?
          2. What is the cultural history of your people?  What brought your ethnic groups together?  What makes your people unique?
          3. Be creative!  You need to establish a fully formed history of your people!
        2. Write a brief history of how your country became what it is today.
          1. Why do you have the type of government you have?
            1. How was it developed?
          2. Why do you have the type of economic system you have?
            1. How was it developed?
      4. Government/Economic System (Chapter 3 Section 2, Chapter 4)
        1. Describe how your assigned government/economy runs. (15 points)
          1. Write a constitution for your Government (See Government Construction Questions)
            1. Examples of Constitutions from around the world
        2. Determine the levels of economic activity based on the resources it has. (10 points) (Chapter 4) (one page)
          1. Write an economic report describing how your Economic system work
            1. Who controls the resources?
            2. How are they traded?
            3. What type of currency do you use?
            4. How is your currency valued?
Homework:
  1. Turn in the Comparing Religions Writing Assignment to Google Classroom by 11:59 tonight
  2. Complete PART I of the Dominaria Project
    1. You will be turning in a typed report on Tuesday so make sure to coordinate with your group and get it done!
    2. You will need to prepare a short PPT presentation to give to your peers on Tuesday as well
      1. You will recive a short amount of time to work on this on Tuesday.
