October 25

Hello ladies and gentlemen,

I miss you all!  Make sure you follow all instructions from the sub and get all your work done today while I am gone!  I would much rather be at school than at this training today.  We will be taking a look at an important historical event today (and over the next few days), the Colombian Exchange!  This is an interesting and important topic and I hope that you all do your best to understand it!  Below you will find our agenda, homework, and resources for the day.

Objectives:
  1. Analyze a text about the Colombian Exchange with the use of annotation and completion of a graphic organizer
Agenda:
  1. History Today #17
    1. Watch the Crash Course Video (Below)
    2. Prompt: Columbian Exchange (Video)
    3. What is the Columbian Exchange and how is it related to the history of map making and exploration?
    4. We will go over this together on Thursday!
  2. Readings: Columbian Exchange
    1. Pre-Reading - Alfred Crosby
      1. Read the short excerpt on slide 5 of the PPT (Below)
      2. Summarize the text in 1-2 sentences
    2. Full Annotations
      1. Access the Reading and the Graphic organizer
        1. File --> Make a Copy
        2. Rename --> P(1,3, or 5) LastnameFirstinitial - Columbian Exchange Annotations
      2. Remember:
        1. Main Ideas
        2. Questions, connections, and comments
        3. Important facts and details per the context of the task
        4. Vocabulary (underlined words)
      3. Complete the graphic organizer
        1. Make sure you understand the graphic organizer task before you read and annotate
          1. This gives your reading focus!
      4. Will have time to work and finish in class on Thursday if necessary
        1. IF you finish early work on stuff for another class OR read a comic book :)
