Climate and Biome Webquest

Hello ladies and gentlemen,

For today's lesson you will be researching the climate and biomes that we have not yet talked about, and filling in the remainder of the spreadsheet that we have been working on. 

Use the following link Climate and Biome Website and with a partner complete the spreadsheet!  This is due by the end of the period and will be graded over the break.

Europe Trip Information

International travel is one way to truly bring your student’s classroom to life, offer them a better understanding of the world, enable them to build self-confidence and develop 21st Century skills. This program is an educational tour to London, Paris, Madrid, and Barcelona in April 2015.  Students can even earn high school and college credit on this tour! There is limited space with only 21 remaining spots available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

There will be a parent information and registration meeting on Thursday, September 25, 2014 in room K-8 to answer all of your questions. If you are interested in participating in this program the deadline to enroll at the current price is September 30, 2014.  You can lock in the lowest price and reserve your spot by registering online at the meeting with only $95 towards your tour so please plan to bring a form of payment with you when you attend.   Those individuals who sign up the evening of the meeting will receive an additional discount on their tour price.  During the meeting we will also discuss fundraising opportunities activities we will be doing.

Hello ladies and gentlemen,

Today in class we finished our notes on the low latitude climate zones and biomes.  After we finished the notes we began working on the annotation process with a piece of text comparing tropical rainforest and savannas.  We annotated the first page together as a class and was able to finish it.

Your homework for Friday is to finish annotating the text before you come to class.  Do not worry about the compare and contrast sentences, we will go over those in class on Friday. 

On Friday we will be working on the other climate zones and finishing the spreadsheet, we will also be working on more text identification and annotation.

Hello ladies and gentlemen,

Today in class we began filling out our Climate and Biome spreadsheets with information about the location, weather, vegetation, animals, and human use for the first climate zone.  On Wednesday we will be continuing to fill out the spreadsheet as well as a reading activity comparing two biomes. 

Remember that if you scored less that a 15/25 on the Five Themes of Geography Quiz you need to come to Tutorial tomorrow to retake the quiz for a higher score.

Hello ladies and gentlemen,

Today in class we began our new unit on Climate zones and Biomes around the world.  A major component of what we started today was using Google Spreadsheets to create our own graphic organizer, which we will be using to take our notes on Climate zones and Biomes.

Your spreadsheets look really good so far!  Don't forget that today was the end of the grading period and whatever your grades are right now, those are the grades that will appear on your first progress report. 

On Monday we will go over your Five Themes Quiz and pass back work, before continuing to work on your spreadsheets.

Hello ladies and gentlemen,

Today in class we finished our Fairy Tale presentations.  After that we had a short class discussion on the end of the first grading period and how grades work in high school.  I highly recommend that you check in with your teachers by Friday to make sure that your grades are what you expect them to be.  Take advantage of the Tutorial period to ask your teacher about your grades and make up any work that you might be missing. 

After we talked about the grading period, we began working with Google Spreadsheet and creating a template to use as a graphic organizer for Climate notes that we will be taking over the next few class periods.

Update about Class this week

Hello ladies and gentlemen,

I missed you all yesterday.  You should have completed your Five Themes of Geography quiz in class.  We are now done with the Five Themes of Geography unit.

After we finish our presentations on Wednesday we will be beginning our new unit on Climate and Vegetation zones.  For this unit you will need to download and print Climate Maps and bring them to class on Wednesday (if not by Wednesday you MUST have them in class by Friday!).

We will be using these maps in class for our activity over the next week or so.

Hello ladies and gentlemen,

Today in class we began our Fairy Tale Presentations.  We were unable to finish our presentations during class today.

I will unfortunately be out on Monday, September 15 for yet another training.  On Monday you will be taking the Five Themes of Geography Quiz that was originally scheduled for Today.  We will be finishing our presentations on Wednesday when I return.

Today was the last class day to work on your project in class.  Your project needs to be done, and ready to turn in and present on Friday in class. 

Friday in class we will be presenting our projects and we will also have a short Five Themes of Geography quiz, where you need to be able to give a definition and an example of each theme.

Today in class we went over the directions for the story book portion of your project, which is due on Wednesday.  You will receive time in class on Wednesday to work and finish your project.  We will also (time permitting) begin presenting our fairy tales to the class.

Today in class we continued working on our Fairy Tale projects.  You were expected to complete the rewrite of your Fairy Tale project in class, if you have not then you and your partner should finish up before class on Monday.  On Monday we will begin working on your Fairy Tale story books.

Hello ladies and gentlemen,

Today was the first full work day you had in class on your Fairy Tale Project.  You and your partner should have completed the research portion of the project in class today, and if you have not then you need to try and finish before coming to class on Friday.

On Friday we will continue working on the project.  You should come to class with a fairy tale in mind that you and your partner want to rewrite.  You will be working on rewriting your fairy tale in class on Friday.  Great seeing you all today as always!
